Calling the woolly

A passionate herdsperson and superhero, SpookyB is a leader among sheep.

In the close-knit community of sheep people, the name SpookyB conjures up ancient memories of “calling the woolly” through music and song. The haunting choruses from outside the walls are not often heard by the non-sheep. Or at least not that they live to tell about them after turning their ears to the bluesy melodies of the hoof-footed singer.

Claiming the reputational privilege of a once-feared black sheep and former baa-ass, SpookyB is known to be a fierce champion and protector of the undersheep. He takes comfort in the wonder of the softly woolly. He shepherds his fluffy charges along the highways and backroads of Canada’s sheep routes in search of greener pastures. They travel at night to avoid being counted, an offensive practice started by an old wife and a wolf and now recognized as stigmatizing to sheep.

Only rarely have the great wool packs been seen on the lamb. Years ago, a little bird told a TV reporter that he heard “a kind of bluesy baa-baaing just over the mountain.” SpookyB once admitted to the little boy who lived down the lane that his songs were mostly whistling and foot tapping until he came upon a magic guitar named Penelope trapped in a forest. She was plugged into a tree, unable to free herself because she was cursed by an evil witch and music teacher to stay imprisoned in the dark woods forever. It was a powerful spell which no man could break. SpookyB gently unplugged her from the tree and picked her up. She told him about the blues and they’ve been together ever since.

It is said SpookyB discovered his superpower in a different time after hearing of a lost flock of woollies that had been attacked and mutilated—their tails removed and left in a tree to dry. They were just kids. He drew them to him with his song. After reattaching their tails, he returned them to their diminutive owner, Ms. B. Peep, who was wandering about a meadow drunk and confused. He told her sheepishly that he did not know why but he liked nothing better than “bluesing” it up with Penelope to an up-tempo shake of a lamb’s tail.

He is known to wear an Apple Watch and reportedly enjoys setting new faces. He also writes stories and has a fondness for fine wool blankets.
